Dal Fry

Ingredients:

  1. Tuvar Dal :1 cup
  2. Water :2 cups
  3. Onions : 2 medium sized chopped
  4. Tomatoes : 2 large chopped
  5. Grated Ginger : 2 tbsp
  6. Turmeric powder: 1 tsp
  7. Ghee/oil : 3tbsp
  8. Chili powder : 1 tbsp
  9. Cumin seeds : 1 tsp
  10. Asafetida : a pinch
  11. Salt to taste
  12. Coriander leaves chopped : 2 tbsp

Method:

  • Cook Tuvar dal and turmeric in water till cooked and soft. Mash it well.
  • Heat ghee in a pan. Add cumin and asafetida. Let cumin crackle.
  • Add chopped onions and fry till golden in color.
  • Add tomatoes, chili powder and salt and cook till oil floats on top.
  • Add the cooked Tuvar dal and water, if required, to make the dal of pouring consistency.
  • Server hot with rice, chapathis.. etc
