Fish Biryani (from Lakswadeep)

Ingredients:

  1. 2 cups water
  2. 1/2 cup coconut milk
  3. 1 cup raw rice
  4. 4 pieces of any boneless fish
  5. 2 tsp coriander powder
  6. 1/2 tsp red chilli powder
  7. 1/2 tsp black pepper powder
  8. salt to taste
  9. 2 tsp chopped onions
  10. 2 tsp chopped tomatoes
  11. 1 tsp coconut oil

Method:

  • Place pan on fire. Heat a tablespoonof oil and add chopped onions and chopped tomatoes, coriander powder, red chilli powder, black pepper powder, salt and saute for a little while.
  • Add the fish cubes and 1/4th cup water and keep a lid on the vessel for about 10 mins, till fish cooks well and the gravy thickens.
  • Simultaneously in a thick bottomed pan add water and coconut milk in the ratio of 2:1 and boil the rice till done.
  • Once rice is done, start arranging the rice and fish in layers in a vessel and sprinkle coconut oil over the rice.
  • Serve hot on banana leaves for tastiest results.
